Apparently inspired by the apparently wishy-washyness of presumptive Democratic nominee and self-described war-criminal John Kerry, the New York Times and Al Gore both let fly their with their own hypocrisy. At the Captain's Quarters Blog, you can read about the Times burying a story that sharply contradicts their own news and editorials of the week previous:
The New York Times, less than a week after demanding apologies from George Bush and Dick Cheney for supposedly misleading Americans on ties between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda, publishes a report detailing even more ties and evidence of collaboration between Saddam and bin Laden.Al Gore, who has recently lost another job as chief propagandist for the radical left to Michael Moore, has this to say about Saddam's links to Al Queda in 1992 (self-transcribed from video):
"There were repeated incidents of terrorism, of which Iraq had a part. Terrorists operating openly in Baghdad, and repeated warnings from our national security people, telling the (George the Senior) Bush administration that Saddam was on a crash program to develop nuclear weapons, and other weapons of mass destruction."In addition, back before Gore became The Prophet of Doom, and was the Vice President, a Clinton Justice Department indictment in 1998 asserted Osama Bin Lauden:
Reached an agreement with Iraq not to work against the regime of Saddam Hussein and that they would work cooperatively with Iraq, particularly in weapons development.
Contrast this with what Gore said yesterday the Bush Administrations assertions of a Hussein-Al Qaeda link(again, self-transcribed):
If they believe these flimsy scraps, who would want them in charge of anything? Are they too dishonest or too gullible?Al Gore and the Times must be counting on gullibility all right - the gullibility of anybody stupid enough to believe anything they say.
Update: This quote, from an article at the American Spectator site by John Tabin is interesting (original link from Instapundit):
"The suffering inside Iraq can come to an end when Saddam Hussein's regime is replaced," said a top Clinton administration official at the time. "And I hope -- and most of the world community hopes -- that this regime based on terrorism and atrocities against his own people will be replaced. Over time, we hope to achieve that result."The official? Al Gore.
